The "new" engine may and i cannot stress enough may be ex MEC GP38 252 currently rostered by Pan Am. This unit is currently in the Waterville deadline. There is some talk that this unit and the B23-7 will be used together. They want the 252 because it has historical value to the CSRR. Not just because it's a ex MEC unit but it pulled the final MEC freight through the notch.

wow so they are going from 3500 to 2000, I wonder if they will use another engine also. When i talked to Paul Hallet in the summer time, he said that if the B-23 turned out to not be worth it, they would scrap the project and start from scratch with a new loco, and that is exactly what i think they are doing.

This is all just speculation/rumors that I've heard. Nothing really offical yet. Paul promised some sort of "motive power news" in the next wheel report. That is what has sparked all this discussion on other sites. Also, they could run the notch train with just one engine. 2 F units just look better. 2820 ran the notch by itself, and 573 has run the notch a couple times by itself. The current rumor is using the 252 and the new b23 back to back and using the 252 on the north bound run and the b23 on the south so they can use the dynamics. I have no idea what will actually come to fruition. I am just passing on info I've heard.

HT, I don't believe they are going to use the B-23 at all. You are right about the F's, but I remember hearing that when 4266 did the notch alone, she had some troubles making the grade, and that was with 4 cars. Now there is 6 cars, and it may be tricky. I still cant understand the sudden need for more loco's! There must be some upcoming problem with the F's that CSRR wants to "give them a break". Also How would you feel as an engineer going long-hood first down the Notch? Thanks, but No Thanks! My point being; maybe they will get 2 more loco's! Who knows!

Okay, here is the big news!!! NOTE I question why there is no note of F units going to Pan AM. I am almost positive that Pan Am will purchase the F's, and Paul Hallet hints at that fact, but never indulges it! http://www.conwayscenic.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.wheelreport

I would be VERY surprised if the F's go to PAR. One of the reasons that the CSRR is so popular with railfans is the fact that they are the only place in the northeast with a matching pair of F units. they are a big selling point for the railroad. I will be shocked and highly dissapointed if these beautiful engines wind up on guilford fail system.

From what I hear, My sources are almost guaranteed that the F's will go to PAR, and Paul Hallet, and the CSRR page, hints at it! Too bad. What does everyone else think about the F's going to PAR?

LW, Do you know when this transfer is going to take place. I will try to find out, and Will attempt to go up that day . Interesting that CSRR will be left with 2 reliable locos (4266, and 573). We will have to see how the 252, 216,and 2820 work out... Who knows, maybe if one of the loco's is down, 7470 will make a rare appearance.. HOPEFULLY...
